Lee Carsley Admits He Doesnt Want To Be Seen As England Manager In Clear Message To Fa

Lee Carsley distances himself from England manager role amid Gareth Southgate uncertainty

Former midfielder admits he is happy in his current role with the under-21s and has no desire to take over from Southgate

Coaches have held talks about England's future, but Carsley insists he is not interested in the top job

Lee Carsley has ruled himself out of contention to become the next England manager, insisting he is happy in his current role with the under-21s.

The former midfielder has been linked with the top job following Gareth Southgate's disappointing World Cup campaign, but he has made it clear that he has no desire to take over.

Carsley, who won 40 caps for England, said: "I'm very happy with what I'm doing at the moment. I'm really enjoying working with the under-21s and I feel like I'm making a difference.

"I've had some conversations with the FA about the future of England, but I've made it clear that I'm not interested in the manager's job.

"I think Gareth Southgate is doing a great job and I'm fully behind him. I'm happy to support him in any way I can."

Southgate's future as England manager is uncertain following the Three Lions' quarter-final exit at the World Cup.

The FA is set to hold talks with Southgate about his future in the coming weeks, and it is possible that he could leave his post.

If Southgate does depart, Carsley would be a strong contender to take over, but he has made it clear that he is not interested in the job.

The FA is also considering other candidates, such as Mauricio Pochettino and Brendan Rodgers, but Carsley's decision to rule himself out of contention is a blow to their plans.
